The functions and responsibilities
of the Ministry include:
· Formulation and implementation of policies and programmes to provide a conducive aviation environment
in line with the conventions of international agreement;
· Over-all supervision and regulation of the civil aviation industry, including airport development &
management, manpower development etc.
· Development and management of airports;
· Provision of air safety and other aeronautical services in all airports within the West African Sub Region;
· Provision of meteorological facilities and overseeing of training in the fields of aviation meteorological
services;
·
Issuance of airline permit and
licenses;
·
Affiliation with international
bodies in Aviation, Meteorological and other related fields;
· Supervision of related parastatals
The Ministry has 6 Departments,
3 Units, 5 Parastatals and a Permanent Representative and Agent like AeroHorizon
The six Departments
are:

· Department of Safety & Technical Policy
· Department of Accident Investigation & Prevention
· Department of Planning, Research & Statistics
